I have an 8:15 class that I haven't been to so far. This is bad, but it's not the first time I've done something like this. I went to my meteorology course for the first time on the last day... but I really intended to go. I did the readings! I set my alarm and everything... but I forgot to turn it on. [D'oh. *facepalm*] Thus, I slept through class.
HOWEVA. Seeing as I slept in, and was planning on running straight from my class to the MPD to retrieve an incident report... I took the opportunity to do some preliminary research. The Southwest Journal publishes crime reports, as does the Star Tribune... so I scanned through there to see if there was any particular incident I could look for and use, instead of spending hours sifting through traffic citations.
DING! I found one! Armed robbery one day, an arrest the next... if I'm lucky, it'll be sent to the courts before I have to get my story done and I can get some solid information and saucy details beyond the ICR. So, all that's left is for me to stride in confidently, request the ICR, get all related documents, print them, and leave. All in all, I probably saved myself 2.5 hours and I have a story I know I can work with.
Alright, so I'm back to even. But it's still before noon... and I still have to actually get up and go get the ICR... so we'll see how things are going in a couple of hours.
