Okay, guys. Seriously, I love you, but I really need to say this, and I am dead serious.

Notice: I am most emphatically not going to join VOX, and I am getting seriously annoyed with being invited or pressed to join.

I love my livejournal. I've had it for five years, and I'm keeping it. I have an amazing f-list, and I don't need another blog. I hate MySpace and all sites like it, and I think I've said that 8 million times. I don't like sites that shove ads in my face before I even get to the content, and I really don't like "profile/network" sites. I rarely even use facebook, and mostly use it to stay in contact with classmates that I might need assignment clarification from. I like people, and I love to read. I can't say it enough, I love all of you... but I won't move with you.

I am extremely active online. Hell, you're on my f-list, you know this. I am on livejournal daily. I read every entry on my f-list, and I keep in touch with all of my RL friends that have xangas instead of ljs. I have a tv.com account and am active on the forums. I check my e-mail multiple times daily. I read news, and I have a lot of pet-sites that I visit frequently. I really don't need another thing to add to my list, and I couldn't be any less interested in the site.

I'm not going to lie, I feel kind of threatened by it. I would really hate to lose any of you, or have you leave lj... but I also hate getting repeat posts in my f-list because you post the same thing from your lj into your VOX. I removed all but one VOX feed today, because it seriously irks me. If you intend to completely abandon lj and therefore make baby Jesus cry, I will add your VOX feed, but I don't want to scroll past the repeat entries and I won't.

Finally, you are not VOX's PR and/or Advertising Department. It makes me sad when people who have really interesting lives, writing personalities, and enjoyable blogs devote all but one entry a week to promoting a site. They're not paying you to be an online advert. Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't be excited if you like the product, and I'm not saying you shouldn't discuss it with your f-list. All I'm saying is that some of you are getting lost in your own blogs.

The bottom line here: Don't waste your invites on me. I am honored that you thought of me, but I've said it before, and this is the last time I'll say it, I am not going to join VOX.

***I know this may have come off harsh. If you're upset about this, please feel free to talk to me about it in either the comments, AIM, Yahoo, or e-mail.

You're my hero. And I agree. I mean, I had thought about doing it, but all my devotion is with LJ and will always be. I barely use my Myspace/Facebook, so really? Why waste my time and everyone else's when I won't even barely USE a Vox account?

I rambled, sorry!

No need to apologize. I totally agree.

I have a Vox account but I don't think I'm going to "join," per se. I like LiveJournal perfectly well.

I've never even heard of Vox. How are you doing?

Better! Thanks!

I had a kidney stone, as it turns out. Cranberry juice and water saved the day(s).

Don't worry. There isn't a chance in hell.

I kinda want a VOX account, but I'd never use it the same way I use my LJ. LJ is about people, whereas I'd use VOX in a Wordpress type way. But I totally agree with you about losing people, and the advertising people are doing for it. Livejournal > all other blogs.

*dons the dumb hat*

What's Wordpress?
Jul. 13th, 2006 04:17 pm (UTC)
I'm not entirely sure, but I think wordpress is a blogging tool that lets you host a blog on your own url and you aren't connected to anyone else that uses wordpress because it is an independent thing and so you get your readers from asking folks to subscribe to your RSS feed or just bookmarking you and coming to your site. It's for the hardcore "i want my own website" people, which I think works for minor internet celebs, but not for us normal folks ;)

I would love to get an invite, actually. I'm definitely keeping my LJ, but J and I want to create a blog for our family to read, and it sounds like Vox would work well for something like that.

I have yet to find something I love as much as LJ!! I cannot spend more than a minute on MySpace. It's just so cluttered and ugly!

Give me your email address and I'll send you an invite. Or send me an email at eloisem@livejournal.com. I'll hook you up.

p.s. sorry shelby ;)

I kind of don't understand why creating a blog on VOX would be different/better than creating a joint blog here on LJ? What's the appeal? I really think VOX is exceptionally MySpace-ish, and I hate everything with ads. Hah, I'm an intarnet snob.

LOL - Crossposting is bad, m'kay?

I think you feel the same as a lot of long time LJers that you are happy with your service and you don't need Vox.

I do appreciate you keeping my feed on your flist though :)it really does mean a lot to me! My joining Vox is not a departure from LJ at all. I've found that there have been so many times when I wanted to share certain posts here on LJ with the world or my family or my RL friends but I didn't want them to get a bright idea and actually *be* on my flist here.

Anyways I guess what my point is in having Vox is to have a public blog open for the world to see and keep my LJ nice and cozy with all my current flisters who will always still get my usual squeeing fangirling, the juicy details of my life, and all the other wonderful things I've always had here in my LJ. And I promise I'll never crosspost. :D

Thank you soo much for that.

I understand your use for it. You can't filter the way you need to with one LJ, so you got a VOX to supplement. That makes sense to me.

Also, I'm very glad you're staying. Otherwise I'd be sad, zomg. ♥

Boo to VOX. I'm in agreement!
Jul. 14th, 2006 12:03 am (UTC)
I haven't the foggiest as to what VOX is but like you, I don't really have a desire to get entangled in any more internet obsessions. There's not a day that goes by that a "real life" friend of mine pressures me into joining MySpace. But ... if we're already chums and still keep in contact on a regular basis outside of that maddening medium (that causes WAY too much drama, as I've heard from chums who are completely engulfed by the lot of it) what's the point?

I'm on a darn computer 8 hours a day for work. LJ is exquisite for passing time and catching up with the ole f-list but otherwise, I've no desire to tack on even more eyesight-dissolving hours online.
