Who let the dogs out?

We have two dogs in our abode, for the first time in a long while. We've go the cute, slightly posessive beagle (who totally just made damn sure that MJ knew which bone was hers, thanks verreh much. Seriously, MJ had Gucci's bone, so G grabs MJ's bone, drops it in front of her, and takes her bone back. The beagle does not believe in sharing.) and the tall, laid back golden retriever. I totally just tackled Mary Jane. There's something about being surrounded by soft, happy dog that just fills my soul with glee.

I'm in a remarkably good mood today, despite the fact that I wanted to smash my alarm to tiny bits this morning. I wake up to punk music every morning. I used to switch CD's every month or so, because otherwise I would get used to the music and would therefore no longer wake up. Dookie by Green Day has had an exceptionally long run. I tried to swap it out with Kid 606, because I knew it would blast me out of bed, but I couldn't even begin to handle it. It ruined my mood because it was such a violent wake-up call. Still, and back to the original story, the song starts off with "I declare I don't care no more." I shouted, "THEN SHUT THE FUCK UP!" into my pillow, grabbed a nearby book and flung it at the snooze button.

I am really not a morning person.

Yesterday was a truly lovely day off. Teh flatmate and I took a 2 hour bike ride, scoped out grocery stores for best prices, went grocery shopping, and bought only fresh food, y'all. We are turning over a new leaf! This is the "anti-box" diet. Anything in a box is a no go. We're also kind of wandering along the lines of the South Beach diet. I'm really inexperienced with this sort of thing, and so... as always, I turn to you guys. So... POLL!

Poll #742528 Is GNC as shady and lame as I kind of think it is?

Have you ever embarked on a diet?

Yuh.

I just try to eat responsibly all the time. I'm not too strict.

No.
5(33.3%)

If so, was it a specific diet (i.e. Atkins, South Beach), or a personally developed diet (please explain)?

How successful was it?

Yes, GNC IS as crappy as you suspect it to be. Don't buy anything from them because they are just in it to make mooola! I took a nutrition class in college and my professor explained to us why pretty much every diet fad product is bunk and so I totally don't believe in that stuff.

Srsly. The only people I see in the store are people looking for a quick, magic fix to get them skinny without trying, or psycho body-builders buying protien shakes in bulk. Otherwise, that store is always empty.

Dude, Christian would PWN Keanu! Hah!

Also, I took a nutrition course in college, and in it, I learned that diets often aren't the way to go -- you lose weight right off the bat, but then you go back to your old eating habits and gain it right back. The best bet would be to adopt healthier all-around eating habits -- three regular meals with fewer snacks, more fruits and veggies, more whole grains, less fats and sugars, etc. The magic of losing weight: expending more calories than you eat. That's all it is.

See, I think that I do eat healthy foods. I don't eat a lot, and lately in college I've been relying on easy to make food in a box simply because I don't have time to cook.

Preservatives and ingredients I can't pronounce freak me out though, and I'm hoping it'll help? I'm excersizing more, because I've been really sedentary lately with school and constant studying and reading and writing and project work consuming all my time... now that it's summer I can be active like I want. I'm just hoping I can shed the pounds I've gained the past few school years. =/ I'm just lucky it wasn't the freshman 15. It was the freshman through junior year fifteen.

How can you say that having seen Equilibrium? AND Batman Begins? Bale would like, trap Reeves in a train and then smash him to tiny bits.

Dude, you can't assume Keanu actually has those powers. Bale actually knows martial arts. Plus, his bone structure is more defined.

Mornings are great, aren't they?

Due to some flaw in my internal programming or substance abuse or a combination of the above, I cannot physically remember the first half an hour or so after I wake up. For normal humans the memory takes a few mins to kick in, so it's quite normal to be able to be woken up and have a brief sleepy conversation (usually monosyllabic responses and protestations) before falling back to sleep and propmptly forgetting that the conversation ever took place for the rest of time.

I don't even know my fucking name until after breakfast.

Have a good day looooovely. Miss you, one of us REALLY must take the time out to hit the other up for a good chat one of these days.

*ruffles Muffins' hair*

Love you bye :)
