My computer is dying, again.

What I thought was an issue with the power port evidently sounds like a motherboard issue, again. Thanks, Mr. Minegrammar LeSucksalot of Tech-chateu! If my technologically informed friend is correct in his assessment, this will be the fourth motherboard that my dear, laptop-friend, Jorge, has eaten in during his short 3 year life. It will be the third time Jorge has died during finals, and it has solidified my resolve to never purchase a Gateway product for the rest of my days on this earth.

That being said, as I cannot move the computer without it instantly losing power and going dead (and honestly, who knows if he'll ever turn on again), it is quite probable that I might be "going away" for awhile, unless I can convince Faith to drag her computer out here for the probable three weeks that mine will be under the screwdriver and soldering iron...which I probably can. BUT STILL.

Let it be known that I AM NOT HAPPY. See icon for further details.

You should tell me these things. I fix computers for a living. :)

OMIGOD! Would you fix it for me and not tell Gateway so they don't void my warranty? 'Cause that rule is the lamest shit ever.

Does it really sound like the motherboard again? 'Cause that is goddamn ridiculous. Also, the screen is bruised where the built in touchpad is and the CD drive wont burn anymore. XD

Well your description is not enough for me to tell. It may be the power cord or just the power on the laptop. One thing I do know is Gateway is a joke and I am surprised to hear people still buy their stuff. Send me more details and I'll try my best to figure it out.

Dude, I didn't buy this thing. My parents did for a graduation present, which ... while the thought is awesome, my computer-programmer mother should've known better.

Anyway, the power cord is fine. The power port that it goes into wiggles a little, but it always has. And, since I'm on the computer right now, it works if and when I find the magic spot that gives the computer power. If it moves so much as a millimeter though, I'm fucked.

Anyway, in instances when it wont power, I can move the cord around to try and find said massive spot, and sometimes during this process there is an incessant chirping coming out of where the powercord goes in. Now, that ranges from soft to loud, depending on where I put the cord and if there's pressure being applied, and the gateway man said that was a sign of the motherboard being dead, and chirping to let you know that your computer needs a tune-up immediately.

True? Need more info?
