Starting off with American Dreamz. Not a great movie, by any means, but it's definitely the best satire of American pop culture and political mayhem that I've seen in a long time. Plus, Willem Dafoe... balding. Also, I should add that Dennis Quaid looks damn fine in a suit.
For any of you that haven't heard about this flick, they basically take President Bush and sit him next to Simon Cowell to try to boost the President's ratings. "Mr. P" is a clueless but generally kind second-term Texan whose father was once president. He doesn't read the newspaper, and is fed cartoon versions of weekly intelligence reports (as well as various "happy" drugs) by his advisor, who is clearly the devil a.k.a Dick Cheney. There's a little terrorist subplot which is ridonkulous, but hilarious at the same time. Also, Mandy Moore manipulates her way to the top, and acts like the air-head ditz I can't help but believe that she is. So it's all very realistic, really!
It's amusing to say the least. Aaron, I think this is a movie you need to go see. Tomorrow Night: Stick it. Oh, and yes, we did warm up with Bring it On just to get into the proper mindset.
ETA: Also, when we rented the latter of the crap-flicks, I also purchased Garden State and Batman Begins. Weirdest combination ever.
