This weekend is officially Bad American Movies Weekend.

Starting off with American Dreamz. Not a great movie, by any means, but it's definitely the best satire of American pop culture and political mayhem that I've seen in a long time. Plus, Willem Dafoe... balding. Also, I should add that Dennis Quaid looks damn fine in a suit.

For any of you that haven't heard about this flick, they basically take President Bush and sit him next to Simon Cowell to try to boost the President's ratings. "Mr. P" is a clueless but generally kind second-term Texan whose father was once president. He doesn't read the newspaper, and is fed cartoon versions of weekly intelligence reports (as well as various "happy" drugs) by his advisor, who is clearly the devil a.k.a Dick Cheney. There's a little terrorist subplot which is ridonkulous, but hilarious at the same time. Also, Mandy Moore manipulates her way to the top, and acts like the air-head ditz I can't help but believe that she is. So it's all very realistic, really!

It's amusing to say the least. Aaron, I think this is a movie you need to go see. Tomorrow Night: Stick it. Oh, and yes, we did warm up with Bring it On just to get into the proper mindset.

ETA: Also, when we rented the latter of the crap-flicks, I also purchased Garden State and Batman Begins. Weirdest combination ever.

I want to see American Dreamz specifically because I love Mandy Moore!

And I love Garden State!

For real? I kinda can't stand her. =/ Then again, I don't really have patience for any pop starlette turned actres. Beyonce especially. Oh god, I will cut.

I enjoyed Mandy Moore in Saved, though. Then again, she was playing the same manipulative, ditzy girl. She even had the "I was once fat" backstory in both films. Amazing how that happens.

I loooooove Garden State. Zach Braff is so beyond adorable, and Natalie Portman is adorable. She always is but, y'know.

From The Desk of the V.B.
So, in the spirit of bad American movies...you missed American Ninja I, II, III, and IV, the Anhilition. I'll omit that, 'cuz I'm a nice guy....Or maybe that just applies to people born in the EARLY '80's. (still a decade worth forgeting.)

<---dying to see American Dreamz but still has an intolerance for Mandy Moore which was inflated upon meeting her. She's quite phony, that one is. But she always shows up in movies (Princess Diaries, Saved) and shows (Scrubs) that I love! Lady's omnipresent AND dating one of my many future husbands (Zach Braff.)

Prepare to have your heart broken...
Correction: She is engaged to Zach Braff. They've ordered Tiffany wedding rings. It makes me want to vomit, because Zach Braff should have better taste. Also, I'm pretty sure here little romantic assosciation is the only reason she was on Scrubs.

Also, Mandy Moore = Flake extraordinare, man. I want to pull her stupidly layered hair.

Interesting tidbit, y'know the Saved! fat camp bit? They totally bring it back in this movie. I don't know why, but I thought it was hilarious, and a little disturbing. How hard is Hollywood trying to beat in the "you can't be successful if you're fat" message into America's head? Especially since Chris Farley and John Candy blow that notion to hell.
