My Uncle John lent me the entire series. They're lovely hardcover books. One is even autographed. Today I moved onto the fourth book, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish. I was readying myself to open it when I noticed something near the spine on the bottom of the book. I was puzzled at first, because this book isn't horribly ancient, but there was definitely funnel spider web on the book. I had to peel it away. God knows how long it's been there, but it was still fibrous, sticky, and - of course - needlessly disgusting.
For the record, I don't like spiders. I've been known to fling books across rooms at them if I see one crawling up the wall. I've got good aim too. Yes, the second Harry Potter book still gives me the creeping heebie jeebies when I see those giant things, and when I think about spiders for too long I start feeling them crawling on my skin. Hate. Hate hate haaaaaaaaaate.
ETA:I also found reciepts for travelers cheques! This is odd, because I found a 35-year-old ATM receipt in my father's original copy of the Guide. Runs in the family, I suppose?
