Right then. I decided rather than wait to read the last two books in the Hitchhiker's series because let's face it, if I forget what's going on and have to read the third book again I will never finish this series. That's not the reason I'm writing, but it's crucial to the following story.

My Uncle John lent me the entire series. They're lovely hardcover books. One is even autographed. Today I moved onto the fourth book, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish. I was readying myself to open it when I noticed something near the spine on the bottom of the book. I was puzzled at first, because this book isn't horribly ancient, but there was definitely funnel spider web on the book. I had to peel it away. God knows how long it's been there, but it was still fibrous, sticky, and - of course - needlessly disgusting.

For the record, I don't like spiders. I've been known to fling books across rooms at them if I see one crawling up the wall. I've got good aim too. Yes, the second Harry Potter book still gives me the creeping heebie jeebies when I see those giant things, and when I think about spiders for too long I start feeling them crawling on my skin. Hate. Hate hate haaaaaaaaaate.

ETA:I also found reciepts for travelers cheques! This is odd, because I found a 35-year-old ATM receipt in my father's original copy of the Guide. Runs in the family, I suppose?
